Facts and figures

  • Client: Highways Agency
  • Value: £10 million p.a.

Interserve's highways and structures maintenance experience from the previous South East Framework is being brought to bear on this new Highways Agency framework in East Anglia and the south-east.

Typical tasks include maintenance and improvement works, resurfacing roads and structural repairs or replacements with values up to £10 million. It is open for use by the local highway authorities and other public sector clients in and adjoining the two areas. Efficiencies and savings are key deliverables through collaborative working arrangements.

Under this Framework, Interserve has been involved in a number of projects including; A1 Eaton Socon Bypass renewal, M1 Stockwood Bridge, M11 Junctions 8-9 Phase 4, A34 – M40 Junction 9, M23 Smallfield Bund North, A21 Stocks Green, A14 Fen Ditton to Girton, M1 parapets replacement, and Medway Council – Rochester and Strood Bus lanes.

Achievements

  • M1 parapets replacement – Designed to reflect the condition of existing structures reinforcement change from stainless to high yield. Interserve achieved a total saving of £30,000.
  • A14 Fen Ditton to Girton safety camera – Early Contractor Involvement established no requirement for hard standings, resulting in a saving of £80,000. Close liaison with EDF on power supply re-design avoided delay to the scheme.
  • Traffic management: Most works were undertaken at night and we employed temporary traffic measures to ensure safety of the workforce and travelling public without affecting traffic flows
  • Collaboration: Shared road space with other contractors and local authorities reduced disruption to the public
  • Stakeholder engagement: Organised displays, events, letter drops for local residents and businesses, local authorities, the police and statutory bodies to allay any concerns
  • Zero environmental incidents
  • Over 40 innovations submitted to the Framework database for use by the wider contracting community
  • Interserve's Framework Manager is chairman of the Motivating Success Toolkit subgroup. We are represented on all seven framework subgroups, which include; innovation and best practice; accurate target costs, forecasting sustainability and environment; and health and safety.
