Incheon International Airport, Korea

New Incheon International Airport, KoreaThe new Incheon International Airport in Korea is widely acknowledged as one of the best in the world: among other accolades it won Skytrax’s silver medal for Airport of the Year in 2007 following the bronze in 2006.

During construction two subcontractors, Dong In and Halla Construction, were charged with building different elements of the high-level access to the passenger terminal. Each was faced with its own challenges requiring a mixture of high- and medium-load vertical shoring and complex horizontal frameworks. Both independently selected RMD Kwikform, Interserve's formwork and falsework specialist business, to supply the intricate combination of products which enabled the construction to take place.

Subsequent to the creation of the main terminal a further contractor, Hanjun Construction, chose RMD Kwikform to design and supply equipment for the creation of a passenger bypass at the airport.

As with all such projects, Interserve also undertook the engineering design specifying how the equipment should be deployed. The result was that construction times of the high-level access ways and of the bypass were reduced dramatically and the finished products contributed to the overall quality which has since been recognised in the awards the airport has won.
