Fitting-out of Thomas Cook foreign exchange bureaux at Heathrow airport’s Terminal 5 (T5) had to be completed in a very tight time schedule, working within the constraints of a high security site.

Building on an established strong relationship with Thomas Cook, Interserve provided a comprehensive service, providing the client with a single point of contact to ensure effective communication.

When another contractor was found to be underperforming, Thomas Cook called on Interserve’s assistance to rectify works that had already been carried out and take the project through to completion. The two companies have already worked together on a number of projects, including similar fit-outs at Manchester airport, and were able to build on this relationship to achieve a very fast mobilisation.

A further challenge came from the need for Interserve to remove large amounts of non-compliant shop fittings supplied by others, re-manufacture them using compliant materials and re-fit these within a very short space of time. A total of 3,700m2 (40,000 ft2) of space was fitted out, in both land side and air side locations. Interserve staff were issued with shirts bearing the Thomas Cook name to help the client reinforce its branding.

As well as the foreign exchange bureau work at T5 and Manchester airport, Interserve has carried out over 500 store refits or rebrands for Thomas Cook in recent years.
