Birch Wood school, Leicestershire
Facts and figures
- Value: £2.8m
- Project duration: July 2003 – June 2004
Interserve was awarded the contract to design and construct a new single-storey special needs school with landscaped grounds and a fifty-space car park.
We were involved in the initial concept stages, liaised with education staff on design and innovation through to occupation with continuous improvements and workshops as the programme developed.
This is the first scheme of the Leicestershire County Council Alliance Framework - Education Capital Programme. It is also the first purpose-built special needs school in Leicestershire.
Initial Framework was the “Leicestershire County Council Pilot Schools Framework”, which we completed in 2006 and we are now working on the new Framework, which is primarily for the provision of Sure Start nurseries throughout the County.
A framework team was developed for the programme to ensure lessons learnt were incorporated. GMPs were agreed prior to construction phase to ensure cost certainty.
