Continuous improvement for Sainsbury’s
All 16 of Sainsbury’s flagship stores are included in the 439 stores covered by Interserve’s contract to provide integrated cleaning services – a contract that has endured since 2000 and grown steadily ever since.
In fact, we now hold the largest outsourced cleaning contract Sainsbury's has ever awarded to a single supplier.
Particularly beneficial to all stakeholders has been the roll out of Interserve’s AVANSYS retail service model, supported by a genuine national retail service infrastructure, which allows Interserve to replicate its retail cleaning solution throughout the portfolio.
Interserve has also instigated a central help desk to facilitate a fast two-way response between the operational team the systems operated by Alfred McAlpine - with the benefit of a quantifiable audit trail. The system reports back to Sainsbury's and enables the client to obtain an accurate picture of the contract at any time.
Hand-held 'Blackberry' GPS enabled devices have been issued to general and regional managers to enable a rapid two-way means of communication between the Interserve help desk and operational teams. As a result, response times have been significantly cut and new audit trails introduced for the client.
We have also implemented a more sustainable dry foam cleaning system that reduces water consumption by 50 per cent, equating to approximately eight million litres of water a year – with additional efficiency benefits.
Health and safety is a major priority, especially in terms of food regulations for the cleaning of bakeries and high-risk areas. All Interserve staff regularly receive training, with a dedicated health and safety manager in place to train all area managers. The information is then disseminated down to all staff.
Interserve has recently been awarded a new contract element with trolley management. This arose from Interserve staff identifying a need and working out how management could be improved to move trolleys more quickly while also raising health and safety standards.
The team continues to analyse the working environment to identify scope for further improvements.
