Interserve designed and constructed the new Preparatory School in the grounds of Wrekin College, Wellington, Telford, which caters for children from Nursery to age 13.
The striking semi-circular design, overlooking the sports fields and secure play area, provides a naturally-lit corridor along the whole length of the school. The classrooms have direct access to the play area and the roof overhang provides shelter during inclement weather.
The structure is a combination of single and two storey with both steel and insitu concrete frames, with large areas of curtain walling.
Achievements
- Sustainability: Natural ventilation extract is provided at roof level and cooling is assisted by the structural mass of the building
- A tight programme was achieved and the success of the project has led to the negotiation of a new facility for the adjacent Wrekin College
