South West College, Omagh Campus
The aim of the project was to deliver a new modern Further Education College for the community of Omagh.
The project, sponsored by the Department for Employment and Learning was seen as a major part of the regeneration of the town following the tragic circumstances of the summer of 1998.
In logistical terms, the project had to deliver one town centre campus since previously the College operated from a number of sites spread throughout the town of Omagh. The College, aware of its changing role, wanted an innovative design, flexible to meet changing curriculum needs and allow the College to expand work-related education and training.
Omagh College is a great example of how education establishments can be used as the focal point for a town and how it can encourage both students and local people alike to take more of an active interest in the local community.
Omagh College fulfils two distinct roles, as a community hub and as a centre of excellence for a variety of fields. To do this, it has been designed in exceptionally close collaboration with the client to deliver a future school that encourages positive growth for students and the general public alike.
