Oxford Littlemore Mental Health Centre
Facts and figures
- Duration: 25 years
- Two buildings: Oxford clinic (40 patients) and Springfields accommodation block (60 tenants)
Interserve, in consortium with Miller Group, the British Linen Bank and Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust completed a new purpose-built Medium Secure Unit through the Private Financial Initiative.
The consortium is responsible for funding, designing, building and operating both the 40-bed facility for Forensic Mental Health patients and patients with Learning Disabilities and a residential accommodation block for support staff.
Interserve has provided non-clinical support services for Oxford clinic and Springfields accommodation block since it opened in 1999. Our facilities management solution services 40 patients and 60 tenants including doctors, nurses, carers and administration.
The 58-bedroom accommodation block is deep cleaned on a quarterly basis, with a daily clean of communal areas and a helpdesk manages all service requests for ongoing planned and reactive maintenance. All three wards are medium-security requiring a sensitive approach to cleaning and maintenance, with minimum disruption to the patients' living areas.
The facilities cover everything from a multi-gym, tennis courts, small allotment and offices for the doctors, nurses, psychiatrists and other administrational departments. Interserve also manages and maintains the nurses' station, sitting rooms, quiet rooms on wards, kitchens, garden area, courtyard and car park.

Achievements
- This diverse facility requires a personal approach with Interserve employees being on site daily to manage the sub-contracting of service disciplines. What makes this contract special is the close working relationship our staff have with the Trust.
- Our staff are integrated into this community, even though at times they can be working in a highly volatile environment.
- When a fire damaged the kitchen facilities, our staff reacted by bringing in steamplicity, a method of cooking where the food cooks in its own steam. This dedication to quality services was well received by the Trust and allowed us to continue full catering for the 40 patients and evening meals for 16 Trust staff on a daily basis.
