Training Trust

The Training Trust is a charitable organisation that seeks to reward nominated employees who have made the most of the training opportunities they have had to the benefit of themselves, the organisation and also to other employees.

All employees, irrespective of age, occupation or grade are eligible for reward and recognition under The Training Trust and hundreds of employees across the Interserve Group are nominated each year. The winners are chosen by the trustees, senior employees of the Group, who look for instances where an employee has exceeded expectations in terms of their effort and dedication to their own development in order to gain skills, qualifications and increased professional expertise.

Now in its 31st year 45 employees were presented with Training Trust awards in May 2011.

FM NVQS

In July 2010, 10 Interserve employees received their Facilities Management National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 accreditation. These individuals are the first in the country to undertake and complete this programme, piloted and delivered by Interserve. The FM NVQ Level 3 was developed in partnership with Asset Skills (the Sector Skills Council for Facilities Management), delivered in partnership with FMTL (Facilities Management Training and Learning) and awarded by Edexcel. The qualification, which is equivalent to two A Levels, comprises eight on-the-job units that assess knowledge and understanding in various facilities-management-related topics, from health and safety and sustainability to customer service, business continuity, performance management and leadership.
The employees involved are responsible for delivering facilities management services to a range of Interserve’s central government, local government and health clients, including:

• Department of Health
• Foreign and Commonwealth Office
• London Borough of Croydon
• London Borough of Ealing
• University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Pat Davis, Interserve's Leadership and Development Trainer successfully completed the training to become an internal assessor, where she will continue to monitor and maintain the quality of Interserve’s FM NVQ training standards. Bruce Melizan, Executive Director commented: “This is an excellent achievement for both our employees and the industry as a whole. The individuals’ commitment and dedication during this pilot has been a fundamental part of the pilot’s development and should offer extensive opportunities for all those involved in this industry. This is another step on our path to up-skilling our workforce and offering everyone the chance to develop to their full potential.  We are extremely grateful to all the support of our partners and our clients for allowing these individuals the opportunity to learn and progress whilst at work.”
Karen Waterlow, Facilities Management Specialist at Asset Skills, said: “This awards event is a significant milestone in the FM vocational qualifications landscape. The qualification is one of a number of new awards which will help employers raise the skills of their workforce and improve standards across FM.  We congratulate Interserve and the ten candidates who have completed the course.”
The FM NVQ Level 3 is just part of Interserve’s commitment to the UK’s Skills Pledge, along with Backing Young Britain, Skills for Life and supporting the roll out of Asset Skill’s Virtual Academy.  Interserve has also been fundamental in developing and promoting the Cleaning Apprenticeship, and is currently in the process of developing a Facilities Management Advanced Apprenticeship, which is expected to see its first learners by the end of the year.
