Maintaining world-leading medical research to the highest standard

Maintaining world-leading medical research

The University of Oxford is a world-leading centre of learning, teaching and research, and the oldest university in the English-speaking world. Devoted to identifying the causes of disease, improving diagnosis and prevention, and developing effective treatments and cures, the University of Oxford’s Medical Sciences Division is one of the top five biomedical institutions in the world. It is also ranked number one in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for clinical, pre-clinical and health sciences.

Mechanical engineering

Supporting Oxford University Estates Services since 2012, Interserve is delivering mechanical and engineering services across the university’s 74,400 square metre estate, consisting of five sites including their Old Road Campus and buildings located on the Churchill Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Warneford Hospital and John Radcliffe Hospital, all in Headington, Oxford.

Our extensive experience within medical and healthcare environments ensures all facilities across the university’s medical portfolio are optimally maintained.

The 24-7 contract provides planned and reactive maintenance and repair, operating and configuring building control systems and energy focused projects. Working in standard partnership with the university’s internal service departments, we are delivering enhanced cost efficiency, through thorough and efficient maintenance regimes and safety compliance.

Maintenance systems

We are working towards implementing condition-based maintenance systems such as vibro-analysis and thermography; a system that identifies any impending failure of plant critical assets, and assists planned maintenance to reduce unplanned shutdowns.

Our team are maximising the benefits of pre-planned and routine maintenance to better use our engineers’ time, and decrease maintenance costs. We have also employed an estate air conditioning engineer to provide in-house maintenance to all split systems, providing a cost efficient and immediate service to the university.

Apprenticeship scheme

To further ensure we continue to deliver the highest standard of service provision, we are offering funded learning opportunities to the service team through the provision of specialised qualifications. ServicesAdded to this, an apprenticeship scheme has been introduced with the recent employment of a maintenance assistant who will train to become a qualified plumber.

Health and safety

Working to SFG20 standards for building engineering services, we ensure all the buildings we work across are safe, meeting compliance requirements under the JSP 375 Health and Safety Handbook. We are also registered under Refcom and Gas Safe for qualified gas management.

Enhancing performance of over 5,500 onsite assets through increased self delivery.
