It includes highly-specialist vocational teaching facilities and is set to raise education standards across Birmingham and surrounding communities.
Realisation of the £55 million construction project resulted from collaborative working between all parties, following longstanding funding difficulties. Value engineering during the design phase delivered a saving of around £6 million whilst preserving key functionality. The college was delivered on a value-for-money, high-performance basis, twelve days ahead of programme and achieved a BREEAM Very Good.
Located on a logistically-challenging site on a ring road, the 25,300 sq m college brings three campuses together into one. Of steel and concrete frame construction, the building's unique features include a steeped form structure that climbs from three storeys to become seven-storeys high, topped with a wave shaped roof. The entrance opens into a large and impressive atrium.
