RoSPA recognises Interserve’s ongoing commitment to health and safety
Interserve, the international services, maintenance and building group, has won both the Outstanding Facilities Sector Award and Defence Sector Award. This is the fourth time Interserve has won the FM Sector Award and the fifth consecutive year as a finalist. Winning over 20 RoSPA Awards this year (2 Sector Awards, 2 Gold Medals, over 15 Gold Awards and 1 Silver Award) brings Interserve’s total to over 100 awards in 5 years.
Bruce Melizan, Executive Director, Interserve, commented: “We are proud to have been recognised so extensively by RoSPA over such a continuous period of time. Our record at these awards shows just how seriously we take health and safety and demonstrates all our employees’ commitment to protecting the health and safety of our staff, clients and members of the public every day.”
Interserve works in partnership with a range of clients and across a variety of sectors, and the diversity of environments these awards have been achieved in is testament to the hard work and ongoing commitment of employees to a safe working environment:
- Retail: Interserve received 5 Gold awards for its work in retail destinations across the UK, including the Cwmbran Shopping Centre, The Grafton Centre, Dolphin Shopping Centre, Coopers Square Shopping Centre, and The Mall at Cribbs Causeway.
- Industrial: Interserve has received a further 5 Gold awards at Barking Power Station, AstraZeneza Macclesfield, Celanese, Scottish & Southern Slough, Teeside Operations and Ineos Grangemouth.
- Local government: Interserve has received a Gold Award at the London Borough of Croydon and Slough Borough Council and a Silver Award at the London Borough of Ealing.
- Defence: Interserve has received Gold awards at Project Armada, VT Flagship (HMS Collingwood) and across the South East Regional Prime contract with Defence Estates through Interserve’s joint venture, PriDE.
- Health: Interserve has achieved two Gold Medals for a continued commitment to health and safety at the Dudley Group of Hospitals, and Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and Gold Awards at University College London Hospital and Leeds Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust.
The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre last night (Thursday 13 May). The RoSPA Awards scheme is not only about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at work; it also encourages organisations to develop robust health and safety management systems.
David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “Interserve has shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others. As well as there being clear ethical reasons and legal requirements for good health and safety management, there is also a strong business case. RoSPA is delighted to publicly honour organisations which have demonstrated their work to improve performance in this sphere.”
