Interserve partners with Leicester College to offer free learning opportunitiesInterserve, the international support services and construction group, has joined forces with Leicester College to provide learning opportunities through them for staff working in the hospitals and NHS estate in Leicestershire.

Interserve is responsible for delivering support services to the NHS Trusts in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, to improve estates and facilities management services across the city and counties.

Around 2,000 employees could benefit from Interserve's commitment to offering skills and development opportunities via Leicester College. The courses available include numeracy and literacy and English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), apprenticeships and Qualifications of Credit Frameworks (QCFs).

The new collaborative educational scheme ties in with Interserve's SustainAbilities initiative, which looks to enhance the social and knowledge capital of employees, nurturing their talent, enabling innovation and improving their overall health and well-being.

The courses offered to Interserve employees through Leicester College include:

  • English and Maths qualifications up to GCSE grade A standard.
  • ESOL (language training) delivered on site around shift patterns by qualified tutors.
  • Individual learning plans for employees of all abilities.
  • Equality and Diversity training to all nominated staff at level 2 – also delivered on site.
  • Opportunities for enrolment onto over 20 different apprenticeship programmes including subjects such as Facilities Management, Security, Cleaning, Business Administration, Customer Service, Hard Services, and Management.

Maria Kitching, director of transformation for Interserve said: "We wanted to work with a local college to provide training to all our employees that need it. Each employee that embarks on this will have their own learning and development programme and where, for example, we identify they need help with numeracy they will be able to attend classes for free on-site, and within their working week.

"Not only will this help them in their jobs, but will aid them in day to day life with managing the household finances, shopping, banking and helping their children with their homework."

Jas Sandhu, Key Account Manager from Leicester College said: "We are really looking forward to working with Interserve to offer a broad range of learning opportunities within the workplace.

"It is a pleasure to work with a large employer that is dedicated to enriching and up-skilling its existing workforce and providing new opportunities for its staff."
