Interserve Press Office | Oct 05, 2017
Interserve, the international support services and construction group, has been recognised for its commitment to the Armed Forces by being presented with a Silver Employer Recognition Scheme award.
The company has also formally pledged its support to current and former members of the Armed Forces, their families and reservists, by signing the official Armed Forces Covenant.
The signing of the covenant marks Interserve’s recognition of the value that serving regular and reservist personnel, veterans and military families contribute to its business and to the UK. The company will continue to offer employment where possible to ex-servicemen and women, and support its reservists.
Bruce Melizan, an executive director at Interserve, said:
“As a forces-friendly company and a top 20 UK employer, we are proud to have received the silver award and to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant. Many current Interserve employees are ex-servicemen and women or reservists, and they play a key role in delivering the high quality facilities management and construction services to our customers around the world.”
The Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme awards were launched in 2014 by the UK government and include Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers. The silver award is awarded to organisations that:
Actively communicate and uphold a positive stance to their employees via established Human Resources policies and procedures
Show flexibility towards annual training commitments and mobilisation of reservist employees and support the employment of cadet instructors, armed forces veterans (including wounded, injured and sick) and military spouses/partners
Must be nominated for a silver award by a third party using the online nomination form
Are required to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and employ at least one individual from the covenant category that the nomination emphasises
As a responsible and equal opportunities employer, Interserve, which is the largest provider of services to the Ministry of Defence, already employs a number of ex-services personnel across its UK business.
One example of this is a scheme that Interserve is running with the Career Transition Partnership to provide work placement and employment opportunities on our project to build a new Defence National Rehabilitation Centre near Loughborough to those who have recently left or are due to leave the armed forces, as well as wounded injured and sick personnel and veterans in the local area. We also have a project underway to design and build an apartment complex in Plymouth for ex-service personnel who will work on the project and live in the complex once complete.
