Apprenticeship scheme supports Olivia into HR career with Interserve

Olivia Burgess has excelled following joining Interserve as a Human Resources Apprenticeship and is now looking forward to progressing her career with the company.

The 23-year-old joined on a three-month temporary contract in 2018 and is based at Interserve Group Limited’s Ingenuity House office in Birmingham. She is one of more than 600 people on an apprenticeship for further learning supported by Interserve at any one time.

Olivia was offered the HR Apprenticeship Level 3 after impressing management. The company’s Learning and Development team described what the course would involve and supported her enrolment five months after she started with Interserve.

The 18-month apprenticeship involves webinars and HR workshops located in Birmingham attended by learners from across the region all of whom work for different firms. It also includes 11 topic areas, each of which has an accompanying assessment.

Olivia said: “The apprenticeship has been a fantastic experience and I would thoroughly recommend this route to other people.

“I never expected when I first joined Interserve on a temporary contract that it would so quickly result in a permanent role and opportunities to progress my career so rapidly.

“I am deeply thankful that the company has invested in my future and I am committed to doing the best I can to support Interserve. Clearly the fact my skills are now developing means that I will be able to do just that.”

Topics that Olivia has studied include: consultancy skills; how HR fits into the wider corporate services and business structures and employee relations. The course culminates with assessment and interviews and is managed by the Chartered Institute of Professional Development.

Chloe Chappell, HR Team Leader - Transactional Services, is Olivia’s line manager.

She said: “I am delighted by how Olivia has developed during her time with the company. The apprenticeship has helped provide her with the skills she needs to excel in her role, and she is now a valuable member of the team and someone who clearly has a future in HR.”
