Jonathan lives in Airdrie, near Glasgow, and started studying for his Environmental Civil Engineering degree in 2015 at Glasgow Caledonian University. Half way through his studies, Jonathan was offered a 3 month summer placement with Interserve through his University; he spent the summer of 2017 working on Edinburgh’s iconic McEwan Hall building and also helping with a hotel development in Edinburgh City Centre.
The following year, Jonathan returned to Interserve on another summer placement and spent the summer working on the Edinburgh Printmakers refurbishment where he learnt a great deal about the industry, was given extensive training and became a real part of the team.
When Jonathan, who is now 22, graduated this summer, he was offered a place on Interserve’s three year graduate scheme. Over the past few months Jonathan has enjoyed working on site, has received a wide range of training including risk management, environmental, first aid and attends a weekly NEBOSH course. He is currently working alongside the pre-construction team and contributes to bid preparation and programming.
Speaking about his time with Interserve so far, Jonathan said;
“I feel really lucky to have come out of university and went straight into a job, especially with a great company like Interserve.
“It was great that I had already completed the two summer placements as it meant I was coming back to a lot of friendly faces and everyone has been really welcoming.
“I’ve received so much training since I started working here and am enjoying learning about the different parts of the business. Over the next few years I would like to achieve chartership and I know Interserve’s links with the Institute of Civil Engineers can help me do that.”
