Interserve’s colleagues providing critical services to the NHS

Vanessa Morrison runs a team of 219 people delivering catering and domestic services to an NHS Trust hospital that is now treating patients who have contracted COVID-19.

Our colleagues are working hard to ensure we provide the highest quality support to national healthcare services to help in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Vanessa Morrison, Interserve’s domestic manager, said: “Part of our job has always been dealing with incredibly infectious diseases such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile, so we are trained, we know what to do and we have the right equipment.

“The team is absolutely fantastic, I’m so proud of my colleagues and the incredible job they are doing. Yes, there are fears about catching coronavirus, but I explain with the safety measures and Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) we have that all the right policies and procedures are in place.”

Interserve has issued guidance and a range of measures to protect colleagues and to ensure the hospital environment is kept safe. These include: hand washing ‘tool box’ talks; stay safe training delivered by experts and using equipment such as Clorox 360 machines so the company can increase its infection control deep-cleaning capacity.

Vanessa added: “We are ensuring all the touch points in every room are cleaned regularly. Where we are cleaning and serving food to patients who are infected, we don the correct PPE, follow our training and stick to our procedures, for example remaining a set distance from infected patients at all times.

“Everyone is pulling together. It is a wonderful team effort.”

Sharon Clift, Interserve internal auditor, ordinarily ensures standards are maintained and the audits are completed, but due to the significant workload being faced is now working as a frontline cleaner to increase the team’s capacity.

She said: “It is incredibly busy, but we are working together as a team. I’ve been in this sector for 21-years and have never seen anything like this, but I am doing what I am trained to do and I am proud that we are doing a good job.

Jackie Thompson, Interserve supervisor for catering and domestic services, added: “Our team is giving 100 per cent and are getting stuck in and I am so proud of them. We’ve all had full training, no-one is being put at risk and we know what we are doing.”

The facilities management contracts Interserve delivers includes NHS Hospital Trusts, community and mental health hospitals together with the London Ambulance Service. The company also delivers best-in-class total FM services to schools, universities, private sector clients, the UK Armed Forces and runs Care at Home, which involves Interserve Healthcare delivering complex care to patients across England.
