Sandwell Futures wins Local Education Partnership of the Year 2011

by Interserve Press Office | Nov 22, 2011

Sandwell FuturesAt the recent Education Investor Awards 2011, Sandwell Futures won the Local Education Partnership (LEP) of the Year Award beating off seven other finalists. Interserve, the international support services and construction group is a principal shareholder of Sandwell Futures Limited which was set up to deliver Sandwell's Building Schools for the Future programme.

The judges selected Sandwell Futures ahead of the other finalists due to the success that the company has demonstrated in meeting the full education vision of its client, Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, in the Black Country. This has included the completion of a £42 million PFI school in Rowley Regis, a £24 million Design and Build project at Smethwick with three other Design and Build projects under construction, at Tipton, Wednesbury and Oldbury. Sandwell Futures has also managed the ICT and Change Management activities within the schools including the roll out of over 1,000 netbook computers to pupils at Rowley Regis, with more to come at the other schools. The LEP has been leading the change in the way that education is delivered through the use of technology. The LEP also manages the Facilities Management and lifecycle contracts for each of the schools.

Since its formation in July 2009, Interserve as part of the LEP, has been working together with supply chain partners Cambridge Education, Agilisys and Barclays to provide 50 apprenticeships as well as over £35 million of works packages to businesses within the Borough. Another £32 million has been delivered to businesses within 50 miles of Sandwell.

In addition the company, together with Interserve, has been actively involved in supporting the Council in inspiring young people so as to increase their aspirations. This has included motivational talks, reading with children and advice on how to compete in the modern world.

The award was presented to Peter Vella, Chief Executive of Sandwell Futures at the awards event.
