Press Release

Interserve awarded National Equality Standard

by Interserve Press Office | Feb 02, 2017

National Equality StandardInternational support services and construction group, Interserve, has been awarded the National Equality Standard (NES) for equality, diversity and inclusion in the UK.

The NES was developed by Ernst & Young (EY) alongside leading businesses, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the CBI. It is based on a robust assessment of an organisation against defined criteria across seven standards, comprised of 49 competencies and is tested through documentary analysis, staff interviews and site visits.

Adrian Ringrose, Interserve’s Chief Executive, said:

"The NES is a highly respected accreditation so I'm delighted to see so much of our work to become a truly inclusive business has been endorsed. The target of achieving a diversity and equality standard across the group by 2018 was a key aim within our SustainAbilities plan so to achieve it early is extremely satisfying.

We’re proud to be the first company operating in the support services and construction sectors to have been accredited, as well as being the largest employer to achieve the standard to date. The next challenge for us is to ensure our diversity and inclusion agenda continues to move forward.”

Interserve was praised for its visible leadership support for the agenda at Executive Board and Divisional Board level, for having comprehensive people policies across the business and delivering diversity and inclusion programmes across the Group. The company was also commended for demonstrating strong employee engagement through diversity network groups and its annual employee survey.

Arun Batra, Chief Executive of the NES, said:

“With a workforce of over 80,000 people, Interserve is now the largest employer to have achieved the Standard. The organisation should very proud of the progress made to ensure all their employees, regardless of their backgrounds and characteristics are working in an inclusive and increasingly diverse environment. I am personally delighted having witnessed the drive and commitment from many across the Interserve family.”
