Interserve, the international support services and construction group, has scooped 16 awards in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards, taking the company’s total RoSPA honours over the last decade to more than 240.
Interserve’s support services business won a range of honours, including Guardian Angel Awards (established in 2014 to recognise and celebrate the work of individuals who have gone ‘above and beyond’ to improve the safety of others), three President’s Awards, three Gold Medals (for receiving up to nine consecutive Gold awards) and six Gold awards.
Interserve’s construction business was awarded RoSPA’s prestigious Order of Distinction, which is presented to companies that have received 15 or more consecutive Gold Awards for their health and safety performance. The division has now won 17 consecutive Gold Awards.
These awards are the highest accolade that a company can achieve in recognition of its approach to health and safety, and were presented earlier this summer at a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.
The awards were received by a variety of people who have gone above and beyond, and accounts that Interserve supports:

Hugh Barrs, Interserve’s Group Head of Health and Safety, said:
“We are extremely proud that our continued commitment and dedication to health and safety, and providing safe environments for our colleagues, customers and visitors has been recognised at the RoSPA Awards. This year we are especially proud of the three employees who have won Guardian Angel Awards, rewarding those who go above and beyond the call of duty.
To receive more than 240 RoSPA awards in the last decade is a real testament to the commitment of our teams who ensure a safe environment for everybody, every day. There is always more to be done, but we continue to make good progress in our overall safety record and last year we reduced our overall reportable injury incidence rate by 12 per cent with our overall rate for all lost-time injuries falling by 10 per cent.”
Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards and events, said:
“The RoSPA Awards are the most prestigious in the world of occupational health and safety, and held in high regard around the world, as winning one demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record. Achieving the standard required is no mean feat.
“This is a special year in the history of RoSPA, and we congratulate all of our winners in this, our centenary year.”
