Interserve colleagues recognised at British Forces Cyprus Awards CeremonyInterserve colleagues recognised at British Forces Cyprus Awards CeremonyTwo colleagues who work for Interserve Group Limited, the international support services, construction and equipment services group, have been recognised for their work by the Commander British Force Cyprus, Major-General James Illingworth OBE.

Albert Shahinian and Nicos Nicolaou both work on Interserve’s Infrastructure Support Provider Contract at the Sovereign Base Area for the British Forces Cyprus. They were among military personnel, civil servants and contractors who received State Awards and Commendations during a prestigious ceremony hosted at Flagstaff House, Episkopi Garrison.

Interserve delivers estate and infrastructure services in Cyprus which enables the deployment of various military capabilities from the British Forces Cyprus (BFC) Sovereign Base Areas and by the British Force elements that augment the United Nations Peacekeeping Force Cyprus in Nicosia. Interserve also provides a wide range of support services that encompass property management across a diverse range of military facilities, including active airfields at RAF Akrotiri and Kingsfield and communications, accommodation and leisure facilities.

Nicos Nicolaou is a mechanical engineer who has worked with the MoD in Cyprus since 2006. He was nominated because of his “highly professional, intellectual and competent” approach in leading a team that carries out building inspection and asset management regimes across the Sovereign Base Areas which shapes short, medium and long-term estate and infrastructure plans.

Albert Shahinian, Health & Safety and Gas Safety Manager, was described in his nomination as “a highly competent, capable and proficient health and safety practitioner”. Albert has worked tirelessly with the Company and sub-contractors to improve the application of health and safety best practice across the Sovereign Bases and the United Nations estate in Nicosia.

He said: “It was an honour and a privilege to receive the award because it is fantastic to know your efforts are officially recognised and appreciated.”

Nicos Shahinian, Inspections, Asset and Plans Manager, added: “I was very pleased to attend the award ceremony and I felt privileged to receive the award certificate from the Commander British Forces Cyprus.”

Both men thanked Alan Ardron, Interserve’s Account Director in Cyprus, and their team for the support they had been given.

Alan Ardron said: “We are proud of the work we provide to support the delivery of UK military capability from the British bases in Cyprus.

“The fact the Commander British Force Cyprus, Major-General James Illingworth OBE saw fit to present the awards to Albert and Nicos in person illustrates how importantly he views the work undertaken by Interserve at the Sovereign Base Area.”
