Interserve announces new operating structure and business strategy update

Interserve Group Limited, the international support services, construction and equipment group, today announces a new divisional operating structure for the Group and its three divisions.

Following the appointment of Alan Lovell as Chairman of Interserve Group Limited in July 2019, the Board has been reviewing the strategic direction for the Group’s three business divisions.

The review builds upon the progress made through the Group-wide transformation and the ‘Fit for Growth’ efficiency programmes, which together have delivered material cost savings and made significant steps in simplifying the business from five to three business divisions, increasing accountability and efficiency across Interserve.

The new operating structure for the three business divisions will see governance and leadership reporting line changes to further advance market opportunities across the businesses. Each business division will be led by a Chairman and Managing Director. The Chairman of each division will sit on the Interserve Group Limited Board.

As announced separately, Debbie White will step down from her role as Chief Executive Officer as of 31 December 2019, having outlined her intention to leave the company in March 2019. This followed the delivery of the company’s deleveraging programme. The role of Chief Executive Officer will not be replaced in the new company operating model. The Group wide functions will be led by Mark Morris, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer.

The updated strategy for the three business divisions is outlined below:

Interserve Construction Limited

Interserve Construction Limited will be chaired by Nick Pollard, who has extensive experience in the construction industry and who has served as a Non-Executive Director to the Board since June 2018. Paul Gandy who joined Interserve in October this year will continue as the Managing Director for the Construction division.

The Construction division’s strategy will focus on delivering best in class infrastructure where it can leverage its strong capabilities in order to create value for clients by delivering on time and to budget across a range of key sectors including healthcare, defence, education, and major framework projects with central government, local authorities, utilities and other private and public sector organisations.

The strategy reflects Interserve Construction’s strength in these sectors through its track record in the successful delivery of major social and economic infrastructure projects, from primary and secondary schools through to universities, through to iconic projects such as the NHS’s first proton beam therapy centre in Manchester.

The International Construction business will continue to be led by George Franks who will report into Nick Pollard.

Equipment Services

Our leading Equipment Services division, RMD Kwikform, will continue to be led by its Chairman Ken Hanna and Ian Hayes as Managing Director. RMD Kwikform provides engineering solutions in the specialist field of temporary structures needed to deliver major infrastructure and building projects.

The division’s strategy will continue to focus on providing engineering solutions to solve complex problems for its customers, through the application of world-class design and logistics capabilities. These capabilities are backed by its leading technology and an extensive fleet of specialist equipment. Alongside the UK, RMD Kwikform will continue to focus on its major international markets of Australia, India and UAE. In addition to this we will pursue opportunities in other countries where we believe the market conditions will provide long term sustainable growth.

Support Services

Support Services will be chaired by Alan Lovell, Chairman of Interserve Group Limited. Lynn Mawdsley has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Support Services business. Lynn previously held the role of Deputy Chief Financial Officer and joined Interserve in January 2019 from Sodexo. The division manages and delivers outsourced operational activities, including facilities management, justice, healthcare and training and employment services, across a range of sectors in both the public and private markets in the UK.

The Support Services strategy will continue to focus on positioning Interserve as a tier one partner to the public and private sector in the delivery of integrated support services. The group will continue its focus on increasing self-delivery and laying the foundations for operational standardisation across the business.
