Interserve awarded £25m contract to build new Saddleworth School in Oldham

Interserve Group Limited, the international support services, construction and equipment group, has been named preferred bidder by the Department for Education to design and build the new £25m Saddleworth School in Oldham.

The contract win by Interserve Construction is the fourth new school project secured by the company this year after being named preferred bidder for three new schools in the West Midlands.

Interserve Construction will be responsible for the construction of the new school offering an additional 150 new school places. When complete Saddleworth School will accommodate up to 1,500 students aged 11 to 16.

The existing school has been identified as not fit for purpose. The new school will be designed to accommodate the growing needs of both pupils and the local community and it will be tailored to meeting and exceeding the needs of modern school education provision.

Interserve Construction’s appointment underscores the company’s wide-ranging experience and capabilities in delivering first class educational facilities in the UK in line with its strategy for securing places on major framework agreements and contracts with the long-term partners including the Department for Education.

Councillor Shaid Mushtaq, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills at Oldham Council, said: “Making sure every one of our children gets a good education is, and always has been, a priority for us. Being taught in the best facilities is a big part of that – we will continue to work with the Department for Education to deliver a new school for our children as they deserve the best surrounding to learn in.”

Phil Shaw, Regional Director at Interserve Construction, said: “Our appointment by the Education & Skills Funding Agency to build the new Saddleworth School further strengthens our position as one of the leading construction companies serving the UK education sector and follows the team’s recent appointment to build the special needs Halcyon Way and Prospect House schools, also in Oldham.”
